Nevada Auto Insurance Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Nevada auto insurance is required by the state. Drivers who are caught operating a vehicle that is not insured are subject to penalties, fines and suspended licenses. There is little chance that drivers can get away with driving without insurance because the state keeps tabs on the vehicles.

Technology is impressive and this includes the technology used to track vehicles that may or may not have insurance. The state of Nevada is well aware of which cars and trucks have been updated and which ones have policies that have lapsed. The process of keeping track used to be overwhelming but today it is quite simple.

The state uses a computer program to keep track of vehicle insurance coverage. The system alerts the state when a policy has been terminated or canceled and it gives a red flag to ones that have not been reinstated or replace by another policy. The Department of Motor Vehicles works diligently to follow up on each red flag.

Drivers will receive a time-sensitive letter that needs a response within twenty days. The letter requests proof of insurance of proof that the vehicle has been sold and relocated. Consumers can either send a response via regular mail or they can visit the DMV website to make a response.

Minimum Requirements for Nevada Auto Insurance

Since the prospect of getting away without insuring your vehicle is bleak, it is prudent to make sure that you have at least the minimum insurance coverage required by the state. Drivers can stay legal by purchasing at least 15,000 dollars for bodily injury for one person and 30,000 dollars for two or more people in any one accident.

Property damage also needs to be addressed in the state of Nevada. Consumers need to have at least 10,000 dollars of this type of coverage for any one accident. The bodily injury and property damage liability policies are the only necessities mandated by the state.

Comprehensive and collision coverage are not mandated by the state but they are very valuable additions to a policy. The minimum is fine for staying legal. However, a more expansive Nevada auto insurance policy is ideal.
