Laughlin is a city that is located along the Colorado River in the state of Nevada. This family friendly city attracts over 3 million visitors each year. In fact, Laughlin is the third most visited resort destination in Nevada, only falling short to Las Vegas and Reno. Laughlin is a more family friendly city because it offers many outdoor and family activities. Visitors can enjoy the Colorado River, shopping, gaming, and other outdoor activities.

The Colorado River runs along the city of Laughlin and the river provides many recreational activities for the city's visitors. The river's water activities include fishing, water and jet skiing, boating, and revitalizing swims in the cool water. Visitors are welcome to bring their own equipment or they can take advantage of the watercraft rental facilities. Tour boats and steamship replicas are available for dinner cruises and scenic rides, while the history of the city is playing during the ride. If visitors would like to enjoy the Colorado River without getting in it, they can take a leisurely walk along Laughlin's River Walk. During this relaxing walk, visitors can enjoy the different varieties of fish and birds that gather along the shore.

Big Bend State Recreation Area, which is located within the town limits of Laughlin, is on the shores of the Colorado River. Opening in 1996, it is the newest state park in Nevada. The state park is known for its spectacular views of the Colorado River and the mountains that surround the area. Visitors can take part in several outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, camping, hiking, and picnics. There are also 22 recreational vehicle sites with the necessary water and power hookups.

The Hoover Dam, a man-made sight, is another magnificent site to view. The Hoover Dam is nearby Laughlin and it is well worth the visit. It is the highest dam in the United States, the 18th highest dam in the world, but at one time it was the world's highest dam. The enormous Hoover Dam rises over 726 feet from the bottom of Black Canyon. Visitors can visit the Hoover Dam Tour Center from 9am-6pm almost every day of the year, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If visitors would like to get some shopping done, there are plenty of places to shop in Laughlin. One place in particular is the Preferred Outlets of Laughlin, which is a two-story shopping center that is fully enclosed. This brand name outlet location accommodates more than 55 stores, with prices being 20-50 percent below retail prices. In addition to shopping, visitors can indulge in various types of food in the food court and watch a movie at the nine-screen movie theater. A variety of stores are also available in the numerous casinos in Laughlin.

The city started with just one casino in the 1960's, but the city has grown to have over eight casinos. Each casino features 24-hour casino gaming, reasonably priced suites and rooms, an assortment of dining experiences, shopping, and much more. Since the casinos are located on the Laughlin River Walk, water taxis are available for transportation to the resorts.
